I must be nut's! Somewhere some little buggy thing got in my brain and started all this, I was kinda thinking about getting an old arcade game, just for fun.
Well, they are pretty dear, from about $2000 up. That's a bit more than I was thinking, actually a lot more.
Some basic research tells me you need some wood, an old computer and screen, some wires and stuff, hmmm .....
Could I build my own retro arcade game, just like the real thing ?
Well clock your eyes on this page over the next few months and find out!
I got some links to some sites that sell various parts that I will need.
I know that you just need an old computer running Windows 98 or better to run an emulator, but need to figure out how it all works. I know nothing about all this, so I gotta figure out a lot!
One site sells a dedicated PCP board that may be interesting, but it's expensive, but may omit the need for emulation software and be a more realistic experience.
Making the cabinet look like a "real" one presents it's own problems, I got most of the tools needed, but some thinking will be required to get it right.....
The x-arcade joystick is pretty much what I want it to look like.
This is the benchmark, it's gotta equal or be better than this to be called a success.
Anything less and it's in the bin!
Can I do it? Right now I think maybe, but it's a lot of work to get it just right, and it's gotta be right .....
Follow my progress here, but there could be some swear words , be warned!
I will post links to where I got whatever, info on pretty much every aspect of this project will be posted here , blow by blow.
Jezzzz why do I do this shit :-)
