EasyMame!
A while back I mentioned EasyMame, if your running Mame on a Windows computer then really you need to get EasyMame.
You can get it from here and it's free!
Installation is pretty easy, just unpack it into your Mame folder and run it from there.
Just to recap you can get Mame from here .
EasyMame is a front end for Mame, so rather than having to go to the command prompt you run EasyMame and you get a nice window.
It's a lot more elegant than the command prompt and very functional.
It's got menus to keep you happy all day long! One of the neat features is that it will check the loaded ROM's you have.
It will list the ones that are bad and move them to a bad ROM folder, very cool.
Selecting a game is, well Easy! No typing in the name exactly, who can do that after a few beers :-)
So far both Mame and EasyMame are working perfectly with no issues , well except for one ......
The functionallity of the joystick in games where you need to push the joystick up is less than great!
What I mean is, it don't work, at all.
It was only after playing a few games that I noticed this feature or lack off, push the joystick up and nothing happens.
I had thought that the games were at fault, then the joystick but the joystick was fine and the problem persisted using the keyboard.
Some investigation revealed the problem.
You would expect that using the numpad that Left = 4, Right = 6, Down = 2 and Up = 8, right ?
Well in the ROM's I downloaded all the games that had an "up" function had this set to 1 or the Enter key.
There is a logic there that my humble mind can't figure, so the fix is just to change the key assignment to NUM 8.
To do this is pretty easy, fire up the game you want to configure, when the game loads hit the "Tab" key.
You will see an on screen menu, select the second one down "settings for this game", there just scrool down to the entry you want to change, in this case it's "P1 Up", hit the Enter key.
Then hit the NUM 8 key on the keyboard and exit, that will fix it.
I feel a game of Space Invaders coming on :-)
