Really we need some phones, I like the Grandstream phones, the Budgetone is a good cheap phone, the GPX 2000 is the dogs !
Sadly they can't be downloaded for free, you gotta buy em.
In addition we need to have two network cards installed in our computer ( you can get away with one and split it into two "virtual" cards, or get away with one and use all stitic IP addressing.
I use DHCP on my main router and want to leave it thay way, so the two cards make that possible.
My setup is : The Grandstream phones are all DHCP enabled for their time keeping functions, so they get their IP address from the router.
This means that on bootup they surf the net looking for the time of day and day of the week, using the ADSL modem as the gateway.
They are given a static IP address to find the Asterisk server
Etho on the Asterisk server is static, and Eth1 is DHCP from the router.
This allows Asterisk to place calls out via the router, if I reboot the router there is no problem, if I just had one card there would be a problem!
I know I lost all non geeks at this stage , sorry bout that :-(
So we plug our phone/s into the router and fire up Asterisk you should be able to make a call out to the Asterisk test number, how cool is that !
But we want more !
