Asterisk, a quick guide. Part Four.

Nearly there !

A TDM card from Digium ( or a clone of same ) installed into our PC now allows us to connect our standard POTS ( Plain Old Telephone System) line into the computer

Now all incoming calls on our phone line will be handled by Asterisk :-)

So we can setup a Dial Plan to handle this, Asterisk comes complete with hundreds of voice prompts to greet your caller, lot's of fun ones too!

And you can get custom prompts done by the same voice over artist, the sexy sounding Allison. And yeah I got some pretty crazy one's for my system!

Now you can make and take calls over the POTS line using Asterisk.

Sign up for to a VoIP provider and you can configure Asterisk to make outbound calls via the internet, you can take incoming calls via the POTS line, and make external calls via the internet.

This is cool, you got an extra "phone" line for little or nothing! One person can be taking an incoming call and you can make an outbound call using VoIP.

And then there is the killer app! You call your house phone from your mobile / cell phone, Asterisk answers it, you punch in a PIN you setup, and then dial any number in the world.

Asterisk places the call via VoIP and connects your cell / moblie phone to the number you dialed.
